Graduate Diploma in Chiropractic Science
About the Program
The Graduate Diploma in Chiropractic has been designed for those candidates that have a completed Bachelor degree with a focus in Health Sciences or Sciences.
The individually designed program contain the specific undergraduate Chiropractic Principles and Skills units, as well as any other undergraduate units from the Bachelor of Chiropractic Science program at Macquarie University that candidates have not covered in their prior studies.
Many of the units offered in the Bachelor of Chiropractic Science are not available at other institutions. Candidates should note that if their prior studies do not provide enough grounding in science, the Department of Chiropractic may recommend that the full Bachelor of Chiropractic Science be completed.
*Please note that this course replaces the Masters Qualifying (Chiropractic) program.

Upon successful completion of a Master of Chiropractic, students are eligible for registration to practise as a Chiropractor within both Australia and New Zealand. Graduates are able to undertake additional examinations to practise in other countries.
Suitable for:
Graduates of human or health science degrees with substantial studies in anatomy and physiology wanting to enter the Master of Chiropractic program.
Career Opportunities:
Once graduates complete the Master of Chiropractic program they are fully qualified chiropractors who can work in a number of areas including:
- private practice
- chiropractic sports medicine
- occupational health and safety
- rehabilitation
- consultancies in allied health areas
The majority of chiropractors are in private practice. Other opportunities include positions in teaching and research in health-care related fields.
Requirements for International Students:
Entry Requirements: Bachelor's degree.
Course Quota: No Work Experience
Requirements: No work experience required.
English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic English only): Minimum 6.5 overall, with 6.0 in each section
TOEFL (paper based test): Minimum 580 overall, with 53 Listening, 52 Reading, 59 Structure/ Written Expression, 5.0 TWE
TOEFL (computer based test): Minimum 237 overall, with 19 Listening, 19 Reading, 25 Structure/Writing
TOEFL (internet based test): Minimum 92 overall, with 18 Listening, 17 Reading, 22 Writing, 22 Speaking

The above language requirements are for entry into the program. To practise as a Chiropractor in Australia (upon successful completion of the Master of Chiropractic) the requirements are different.
The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has recently announced that graduates in all health disciplines will be required to demonstrate English language skills at IELTS level 7 or equivalent.

Lodging an Application
The following steps are provided for students who already have a graduate level health science based degree with substantial studies in human anatomy, including musculoskeletal, visceral and neuroanatomy substantial studies in human physiology, studies in either human pathology OR medical microbiology at a minimum of 200 level.
Applicants can send in their application to the Department from March each year till December. It takes several weeks for applications to be processed. The department recommends applicants to apply early to increase their chance of obtaining a place in the program. Applications officially close January each year.
Offers made to students are based upon previous academic performance. This program has only a small intake each year.

- Unit outlines for all units that cover: Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, Chemistry, Chiropractic Studies, Pathology, Radiology, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
- Unit outlines need to contain - week by week lecture topics, lab hours, assessment methods.

Step 2:
May be completed at the same time as Step 1 (UAC Applications open in Aug/Sept for the following year)
- If you are an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia submit an application with the Universities Admission Centre (UAC) - Postgraduate for the qualifying program. This may be completed on-line.
- If you are an International Student, apply through the Macquarie University International Office.
Step 3:
- A letter or email will be sent to you from the Department of Chiropractic detailing the outcome of your application.
- Offers made to students are based upon previous academic performance.
- Please note that the outcome of your application will be based on the level of detail you provide in step 1.
Step 4:
· Students that have been made an offer from the Department will need to make an official application for a place in the program. This is made either;
a) through the University Admissions Centre www.uac.edu.au/ for Australian and New Zealand citizens or Australian Permanent Residents.
b) through Macquarie International www.international.mq.edu.au/for all international applications.

Specific Program Details
- The intake to this program is once a year at the start of the academic year. There is no mid year intake.
- Applications are competitive. Applicants will be chosen based upon their Grade Point Averages from prior institutions.

- There are two 15 week semesters per year each including 13 weeks of classes and a two week examination period.
- Program length - one year full time study.
- Full time status is required for obtaining Centrelink benefits and to meet International Visa conditions. Students requiring full time status must undertake elective units from across the University to full fill these requirements.
